Binary Analysis Researcher (FEDS0700)

We are looking for a motivated, experienced, intelligent candidate to support an on-going federal services contract in central Maryland. You will provide our government client with original research and testing on tools and techniques for analyzing the security and reliability of compiled software (“binary analysis”) and perform development on custom tools and scripts. You will also interact with your peer community online and in person in pursuing the latest innovations in binary analysis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Researches what is currently “state of the art” in binary analysis, including online research, reading papers, and interacting with the binary analysis community to find the latest in static and dynamic binary analysis tools
- Tests binary analysis tools from a wide variety of vendors and research institutions at increasing levels of depth and complexity to determine suitability of tools for further research and accuracy of results
- Develops methods of integrating binary analysis tools into automated testing environments, including working with development staff
- Develops methods of intelligently parsing output from tools to determine what is pertinent and/or important to certain research cases
- Documents tools, tool functionality, testing methodologies, procedures, and process for collaboration with team members and communication to customers
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S./B.A. or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
- Four or more years experience in software engineering, system security engineering, or software vulnerability assessment
- Experience in reverse engineering x86 binary machine code and/or using/tuning binary or source code analysis tools
- Top notch communication and presentation skills
- Able to solve very difficult technical problems - and enjoy the challenge!
- Current US Government TS/SCI security clearance; full scope polygraph preferred
ADDITIONAL VALUED SKILLS
- Experience in reverse engineering x86 binary machine code with tools such as IDA Pro and OllyDbg
- Experience using/tuning binary or source code analysis tools such as Fortify SCA, Clockwork Insight, GrammaTech CodeSonar, Ounce Labs Ounce, FindBugs, and Veracode
- Ability to document and present technical details in a concise, understandable manner
- Ability to manage project tasks individually and as part of a team
- Working knowledge of cryptology
