Mandiant was named a leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Incident Readiness Services 2021 Vendor Assessment (Doc#US46741420, November 2021). The IDC MarketScape studied 14 cyber security vendors that offer incident response readiness services across the globe.

Mandiant is no stranger to this positioning.

In the most recent 2021 study, vendors were evaluated on their breadth of incident readiness capabilities, with the primary focus on how cyber security service providers help their clients in advance of an attack—areas that occur 'left of boom'—including risk assessments, playbook and runbook consulting, frameworks utilization, and various proactive testing services.

The IDC MarketScape's observations of Mandiant highlighted the following differentiated portfolio strengths that help organizations effectively improve their response readiness and overall security posture:

  • Assessment services, which evaluate a client’s ability to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats. Services include but are not limited to response readiness assessment, compromise assessment, red teaming, purple teaming, penetration testing, tabletop exercise, cloud architecture security assessment, remote security assessment, ransomware defense assessment, and industrial control systems healthcheck.
  • Transformation services, centered on helping clients to design, build, or improve key security functions such as threat detection, containment, and remediation capabilities. Mandiant provides actionable recommendations and hands-on support to implement critical changes and best practices for functional readiness. Services include but are not limited to cyber defense operations and cyber defense center development.
  • Defend services, fueled by Mandiant’s threat intelligence capabilities, managed detection and response services, and incident response retainers, all which are key to successful incident readiness.
  • Training programs, providing frontline teachings on how to execute the right processes and technologies through instructor-led learnings and hands-on scenario gameplay based on real-world investigations, not theoretical scenarios. Courses include enterprise incident response, malware analysis, network investigations, and forensic analysis. All courses can be delivered remotely. A notable aspect of Mandiant’s training program is ThreatSpace, an immersive cyber-range that enables testing of a security team’s ability to protect, detect and respond. Participants are coached to apply proven processes and procedures that improve overall security effectiveness and capabilities.

Positive customer feedback supported the IDC MarketScape’s findings as well. One client who was interviewed said, “After completing a tabletop exercise with Mandiant, it was obvious they had done the homework, were fully prepared, and understood the mission.”

For these reasons, the IDC MarketScape recommends that organizations looking for a provider with a global footprint, threat intelligence, assessment capabilities, and the ability to strengthen client skills through training should consider Mandiant.
